Keywords:
Psychological well-being, Adolescents, Gender differences, Meta-analysisAbstract
This meta-analysis investigates the psychological well-being of male and female adolescents by synthesizing data from 30 empirical studies published between 2010 and 2023. The study aims to identify gender-specific patterns and differences in psychological well-being, considering factors such as coping mechanisms, social influences and mental health outcomes. Through systematic review and quantitative analysis, results indicate that female adolescents generally report higher emotional distress, while males tend to exhibit more externalizing behaviours. The findings highlight the need for gender-sensitive interventions and further research on socio-cultural determinants affecting adolescent mental health. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how psychological well-being varies by gender during adolescence, informing policy and practice in youth mental health services.
